Emotion driving Snow Patrol's charge

After passing up on a share in superstar galloper I'm Thunderstruck, when the opportunity came to buy into another promising gelding with Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, Brett Grimley didn't need to be asked twice.

The horse was Snow Patrol and now the retired Grimley finds himself as the owner of a genuine chance in a Group 1 ahead of Saturday's 1600-metre Australian Guineas.

"His last run was enormous (Autumn Stakes), we've got Blake Shinn this week and there is more improvement in our horse, Mick told me he had him 80 per cent wound up the other day," Grimley said.

"I think he'll give us a good showing, onwards and upwards."

There will be extra sentiment to a G1 win given Grimley was put into the horse by the late Tim Mangan of Ace Bloodstock, who tragically passed away last year.

Mangan was a part-owner in I'm Thunderstruck, who won $8 million in prizemoney, and he ran the

popular syndication company with son Darcy.

"Timmy asked me to go into Snow Patrol and I got my son Sam into him as well, he was there for the Group 2 win, which was great, because he's only had a couple of horses, he was thrilled to bits," Grimley said.

"We'll be saying a prayer and hopefully Timmy can get us home on Saturday, it would mean a hell of a lot to all of us."
